Why Couples therapy with Sam
Relationships can be hard, especially when the connection you once felt starts to fade. Maybe conversations turn into arguments, or worse, silence. You may feel unheard, misunderstood, or stuck in the same painful patterns with your partner, wondering how you got here and whether things can truly change.
I work with couples and individuals who want to better understand what’s happening beneath the surface of their relationships. Together, we explore the emotions, needs, and interaction patterns that can leave partners feeling disconnected or alone. Rather than placing blame, my approach focuses on helping you feel seen, heard, and understood.
My work is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy. I offer a warm, supportive space where difficult conversations can happen safely, emotions are welcomed, and new ways of relating can emerge—helping you build a relationship that feels more secure and emotionally fulfilling.

What to expect/ first day—the first time we meet we will go over intake forms and go over a couple of different forms. After going over forms, I’ll learn what brings you to therapy and learn about you as a couple/ person. With couples, after the initial intake, I like to schedule two individual sessions (where I learn about each individuals history) before continuing on with couples therapy.

This will vary, some couples will progress quickly and others may take a bit longer. It’s not uncommon to see some changes quickly in the process but sometimes that change can be more short term or superficial. Long and lasting change will typically require sessions in the double digits.

No. In EFT, the therapist does not take sides or determine who is “right” or “wrong.” My role is to support the relationship itself by helping both partners feel understood and emotionally safe.
Rather than focusing on blame, we look at the patterns that pull you apart—like cycles of conflict, withdrawal, or misunderstanding—and how those patterns impact both of you. I work to understand each partner’s experience and help translate difficult emotions so you can hear each other more clearly.

At this time I do not except insurance. My rates are $100 a session for individual and $120 for couples.

Yes! I do offer virtual appointments or a mix of both. I have a preference for in-person sessions whenever possible but will be happy to meet virtually!

The first session is about getting to know you as a couple and creating a safe, supportive space for both partners. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you hope will change, and the patterns that tend to show up when things feel difficult between you.
I’ll ask questions to better understand your relationship, your strengths, and the moments when you feel most disconnected or stuck. While you may share some challenges, the goal of the first session is not to “fix everything” right away—it’s to begin slowing things down, helping each partner feel heard, and setting a clear direction for our work together.
